St Albans – Linden Homes

Client: Linden Homes

Project: Mosaic, Victoria Street, St Albans.

Date:  July 2013

Contract:  St Albans Victoria Street car park and surrounding area regeneration was a joint venture between Linden Homes & Network Rail.  Architects, JTP, were appointed to prepare and secure planning permission for the 362 homes and associated community areas and ASW Ltd were asked to assist Linden Homes with access requirements.

The Challenge: Typically, the buildings are four storeys in height and were a fairly standard, familiar prospect for the team at ASW Ltd.  However, the focal building which sits within the central green required some fairly detailed designs and a very specific access solution as it is 8 storeys high and elliptical in shape.

The Result: The redevelopment of the Victoria Street car park area in St Albans provided Linden Homes the opportunity to create a new urban quarter with over 350 homes.  The site which includes a doctor’s surgery, fitness centre, underground parking and commercial units has seven perimeter apartment blocks enclosing a central green.  An 8-storey elliptical shaped apartment block dominates the central green and serves as focal point for the development.

"I have worked with Steve at various companies over the last 12 years. Whenever possible I have always made sure that I get him involved. He is always trying to improve the way his company works and in my view drives the industry forward, he is great to work with and has a well trained and motivated team around him that continually drive standards up”
